After doing the mother of all start-ups, Genie (a very well funded BT initiative,) which then became O2 (now a Telefónica company,) I decided to take a break from corporate life and begin a new career as an independent professional working across multiple industries, practising multiple disciplines.
At the end of 2003, it seemed logical to me that I should bring to bear all the benefit of my experience gained from different companies, positions, in the different industries I’d worked in. Thus, in order avoid pigeonholing myself and also to improve my appeal to as many potential clients as possible, I styled myself as an Advisor, Entrepreneur and Corporate Executive. I spent a lot of my time advising companies in the Venture Capital and Private Equity space, as well as working with start-ups like Qpass (now an Amdocs business unit,) Liberty Europe (now a LastMile business,) and also some big corporates.
